Fatigue can take a toll on my prayer life. When my energy is really low, it’s difficult to start praying or keep praying for any length of time, let alone concentrate on Who God is and give Him the praise He richly deserves.
Because health conditions and sleep issues have caused my energy to be low during periods of my life, I’ve found ways to jumpstart my sluggish mind and spirit, especially on mornings when I’m dragging. Here are some practices you can also try to boost your energy before prayer:
Drink a glass of warm water with a slice of lemon before breakfast to rehydrate after the night’s fast. The combination can also flush toxins, boost digestion, benefit your immune system, lubricate joints, and may even relieve pain and discomfort.
Take a warm shower and end with a short burst of cold water. Or give yourself five-second blasts of cold water throughout the shower. Cool blasts improve circulation, boost alertness, and perk up moods.
Lift your arms above your head and inhale. Touch your toes and exhale. Repeat.
Do some Jumping Jacks. For a lower impact version, extend alternate legs out to each side with the same arm movements.
Lift one bent knee toward your opposite arm’s bent elbow. Repeat with the opposite knee and arm, and continue to alternate.
Tap the top of your head using the fingers on both of your hands to bring more energy to your brain.
Massage your ears for half a minute. This is an easy way to stimulate circulation since your ears contain nerve endings that correspond to different parts of the body.
Pretend you are shampooing your hair, rubbing your scalp using your fingertips. Gently massage the entire scalp for two minutes, giving special attention to the temples, the base of the skull, and the skin above both ears.
Grasp handfuls of hair and gently pull for five seconds.
Belt out a song to pump extra oxygen into your lungs and increase your energy levels.
By incorporating these quick energy tips, you can overcome fatigue and enhance your prayer life.
